Week of Sept 20

Monday

• Prepare a group presentation on Hughes-Hallet, "The Foreigner" or "The Woman." Meet with your partner(s) over the weekend to discuss what you think are the most interesting and important arguments and ideas in the chapter that you have been assigned and decide among you how you can present that chapter to classmates who have not read it. Each group will have 10 minutes to present the material and to answer questions. You should decide what to summarize, what to quote, what to illustrate using examples from our common reading so far, and how to divide the labour. You may coordinate with the other group presenting the same essay if you wish. Send me an email or give me a call if you would like me to attend all or part of your meeting, and I'll try my best to make it.

•  I highly recommend that you take this opportunity to read the first section, "What the Real Cleopatra Wore," in David Claudon's The Cleopatra Costume on Stage and in Film. (We will read more of Claudon's essay as the course progresses.)
